Supporting the Motu Foundation

Patrons and Donors

Would you like to support independent and topical research of international quality that helps to build capability in New Zealand research and public policy?

Motu receives one off contibutions from Donors, and our Patrons commit to a three year funding programme of $10,000/year.

While the Patron contribution sought is not significant, it goes a long way to helping us build capability in the public sector through providing funding for research relationships, internships and scholarships, and in the longer term - seed funding for new research ventures on important New Zealand policy issues.

Contact us on 049394250, or email director@motu.org.nz for more information about supporting Motu.

Our patrons generous contributions can be used to:

contribute to informed debate on important issues shaping New Zealand by underwriting Motu’s Public Policy Seminar Series;
produce and distribute summaries of key policy-relevant working papers;
organise visits by top international visitors whose unique, outside perspectives facilitate discussion on significant policy issues within New Zealand;
sponsor scholarships and internships, including a Maori scholarship and the Motu Doctoral Scholarship;
provide seed grants for new areas of research;
create funding pools to support new research ventures.

We acknowledge Motu Patrons on our website, and in our annual reports and newsletters. Patrons also receive copies of our publications and invitations to Motu events and seminars. Patrons and Donors also have increased access to the expertise of Motu Research’s top quality Senior Fellows and Research Associates
Like those from donors, contributions from patrons protect the independence of Motu Economic and Public Policy Research. Patrons do not determine the direction or outcome of any of Motu’s research. The Motu Foundation is governed as an independent trust to maintain this division, which is essential for Motu’s credibility.
The overall aim of the Motu Foundation is to improve the capacity for and stability of public policy research in New Zealand and to complement other funding. This is set out in more detail on the purposes and goals page in this website.
